Letter to the Editor: Jeff Gordon voted against numerous bills to improve the lives of those in the 35th District

Your vote is valuable to the future of our district and the state. You deserve to see the truth. Gordon's voting record is disappointing. Google each bill and see his senate votes OR lack thereof... in the search type: Connecticut and a bill # example... HB5424

My name is Merry C. Garrett. I am running for the 35th District CT State Senate. I have been endorsed by the Democratic Party, Independent Party, and the Working Families Party. Plus, I've been endorsed by dozens of unions, educational organizations, civic groups and many others. Please see www.merrycgarrett.com for details.

Like many of you, I became increasingly tired of seeing our district—the beautiful 35th! — get the short end of the stick due to incompetent leadership that is unable to get the job done. We need a State Senator that can deliver for us. People want a results driven advocate and someone that will listen to their needs versus blaming them.

  • My opponent claims to have brought millions of dollars into our district and passed bills. He did not.

  • He claims to have taken on the insurance companies and won. He did not.

  • He claims to have negotiated the largest tax cut for working families in history. That is not the truth. It was Ned Lamont’s budget, thanks to the Democratic majority for the tax cut. Jeff Gordon voted AGAINST budget adjustments in 2024.

Voting records don’t lie.

You can scroll down [Editor's Note - You must click the Facebook link below before scrolling] to find lists of bills he voted against or did not care to vote for here: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/MF1zp3YwZa4JCX3e/ He was absent for dozens upon dozens of votes. That is unexpectable.

It comes down to trust. Can we trust Jeff Gordon? NO, we cannot. He lies to us over and over and over again—plus, he does not disavow extremists or vandalism of property - even when common sense Republicans do so.

Ask yourself these questions and think about the impact on your household and/or town:

  • Did your property taxes or rent increase?

  • Were there cuts to education in your town (and/or staff and or teach layoffs)?

  • Were your town’s services reduced? Is your town’s infrastructure in need of upgrades (including but not limited to automation)?

  • Did your electricity bills increase? He had two years to do something, but instead he voted for Senate Bill 7 increasing our bills by 23%...

  • Are you keeping more or less of your income?

  • Does your town have expanded quality, affordable housing solutions (for downsizing and for young people/families)?

  • Is your regional hospital full service and as robust as it was before he took office?

  • Do you want a senator that votes against the disabled, senior citizens, working people, and improved access to medical solutions (he is supposed to be a doctor...)

  • This is an important question too… How immediately accessible is your State Senator for serious needs?

The list of questions can go on and on. We live here, we know what the truth is, we live it every day. These are issues that matter, and Jeff Gordon has been on the wrong side of history. He even voted against doctors that must perform emergency care to women having a miscarriage (HB5424).

I've spoken to dozens of groups; thousands of residents and they are not wrong in stating they have no representation when it comes to the 35th District State Senate.

As a lifelong resident of Eastern Connecticut - just like you I know what reality is and we know we deserve better. We deserve not to be an afterthought. We deserve a Senator who can get the job done. You deserve a Senator who is on your side. That is me.

On November 2nd, 3rd or 5th, please cast your vote for me, Merry C. Garrett. I’ll always be honest with you and I will never vote against the people in our district.

Merry C. Garrett
