Rotary Announces Students of the Month and More

By Kristy Synnott, Rotary Club Member

Did you attend Applefest? The Rotary Club did!

The rainy day could not keep Stafford from celebrating the 1st Annual Stafford Applefest! Rotary members were there to welcome attendees, share Rotary information, and sell cotton candy. The weather may not have been ideal, but that didn’t keep Stafford residents from coming out to see what the event was all about. Everyone had a great time and the club looks forward to participating in years to come!

The Lorax Scarecrow
Stafford Rotary Club’s entry in the Stafford Garden Club 2023 Scarecrow Contest. “I am the Lorax and I speak for the trees” – club members do too!

Trick or Treat on Main has become a staple in the Stafford community. Members of the club were glad to be a part of the fun again this year. Beaded necklaces were handed out to kids and adults alike and there were many new and some familiar faces – along with some scary ones too!

Rotary Club Students of the Month

The Stafford Rotary Club is thrilled to announce the fall Rotary Students of the Month! These Stafford High School students are selected based on nominations from teachers who believe that they possess the qualities valued by the Rotary organization. These characteristics include leadership, civic involvement, responsibility, and commitment to class and community. Congratulations to Zoey Zawodniak (September), Dylan Maney (October), and Lyndsey Sklenka (November). These students and their families are invited to a Rotary meeting where they are recognized for their accomplishments and receive a monetary award.

Coming up with Rotary Club: Volunteer Fair

The Stafford Rotary Club along with the Friends of the Stafford Library are again hosting a Volunteer Fair at the Stafford Public Library. This year’s event is on Thursday, Nov. 2, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Whether you are a teen looking to fulfill course requirements or explore careers, a senior/retiree looking to give back, or somewhere in between, this event is for you! You can learn more about organizations such as the Stafford Garden Club, the Stafford Lions Club, the American Legion, Friends of the Library, and the Stafford Childhood Collaborative, just to name a few! Opportunities range from one-time opportunities to serving on a regular basis. Be sure to look for the Stafford Rotary Club table and say hello!

How can you get involved with Rotary and our Stafford community? The club welcomes participation at any level. Members’ time and talents are needed whether it’s an hour or 10 hours a month. Meetings are held at the West Stafford Fire Department on Route 190 in Stafford, Connecticut every first and third Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. and all are welcome to attend. Questions? Email the club at staffordrotaryct@gmail.com, visit their website at https://staffordctrotary.org/, or check out the Rotary Club of Stafford Facebook page for more information.
