The Rotary Club of Stafford, CT, was proud to sponsor Stafford High School senior Jadyn Kun to participate in the 2024 World Affairs Seminar in Waukesha, Wisconsin, at Carroll University. From June 22-28, Kun joined students from all over the world to discuss the seminar’s theme, Democracy and Governance: Evolving Global Perspectives.
The students had many opportunities to hear about election security, nation-building in Afghanistan, and from Stephanie Urchick, the Rotary International President for 2024-2025.
Kun shared that she particularly enjoyed the Diplomacy Simulation exercise, where students debated a fictional border issue. She also participated in a mock UN negotiation, where each party took part in debates to work towards a compromise. Ms. Kun explained, “It made me understand the depth of these issues and how different perspectives can see the same issues in very different ways.”
Kun further noted that she learned that “no matter your political standing or your views, you can still work with people with completely different perspectives.” She expressed that she particularly enjoyed meeting new people from in and out of the United States, which helped her appreciate different cultures and perspectives. With the goal of being an elementary school teacher, Kun concluded that she would apply the lessons she learned about learning styles, adaptability, and problem-solving to both her academics and future profession.
